It was first occupied by the Portuguese in 1521 and then by the Persians in 1602 and has a strong colonial influence and the city is an ideal place from which to enjoy the lovely beaches, modern buildings and sites in the area.

Manama offers local museums, exotic souks, modern shopping malls , an array of restaurants offering local as well as western cuisine, an active nightlife with many bars, clubs and of course the extremely hospitable , open-minded and tolerant locals.
